Philippines first participated in the Olympic Games at the 8th edition of the summer game in Paris, France in 1924 where we sent only 1 athlete, David Nepomuceno, who was entered in the 100m and 200m run, athletics event. Philippines was immediately represented in Swimming events at the 9th Olympic Games in Netherlands; and since then Filipino swimmers have continuously qualified and participated in the Olympics excluding the 12th and 13th Olympic Games because of World War II, and the 22nd Olympic Games in Russia where Philippines did not send a single athlete to the said Olympics in 1980.
