Chua pockets SEA Games slot at Philippine National Open 2019

Homegrown swim superstar Xiandi Chua pocketed a SEA Games slot in the Women’s 200m IM event after clocking a gold medal time of 2:21.18 at the opening of the 1st Philippine National Open Swimming Championships held at the NCC Aquatic Center in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac Saturday afternoon.

Eighteen year-old Chua ranked 4th in the Women’s 200m IM event heading to PNO 2019, the last SEA Games qualifying meet. Her gold medal time of 2:21.18 has propelled her to second place in the SEA Games qualifiers ranking, thus clinching her the spot to represent the country at the 30th Southeast Asian Games this December.

There is no stopping to the rise of Philippine Swimming as seventeen Batang Pinoy swimming records had been broken at the recently concluded national championships in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan last August 26-28, 2019.

Leading the pack with the most number of records broken were Aubrey Tom of Cainta Rizal, Liaa Margarette Amoguis of Davao City and Roz Ciaralene Encarnacion of Laguna Province.

Dipolog City’s Albren Jan Dayapdapan and Dagupan City’s Gabriel Angelo Jizmundo broke the 14-15 Boys 50m Breaststroke Philippine Junior National record at the opening day of the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Puerto Princessa, Palawan Monday afternoon.

Fifteen year-old Dayapdapan took the gold of the 50m Breast Boys 13-15 Division with a time of 31.10, while Jizmundo, 15, went home with a silver after clocking 31.20

Fifteen year-old Jeremiah Tandingan, the country’s top 14-15 age-group swimmer, has successfully reset her 100m Freestyle 14-15 Girls Philippine junior national record at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary Wednesday afternoon.

Tandingan clocked 58.49 in the 100m Freestyle preliminary to reset her 58.90 record which she clocked at the 43rd SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Cambodia last June. She finished 52nd among 111 top junior swimmers from around the globe.

Homegrown talent Jerard Dominic Jacinto erased legendary Ryan Papa’s 22-year-old Philippine national record in the Men’s 100m Backstroke event at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Tuesday afternoon.

Seeing action in the final heat of the 100m Back prelims, Jacinto confidently took his ground against top junior swimmers around the world to clock a new national record time of 56.27, breaking Papa’s 56.48 national record which was set at the 19th SEA Games in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1997.

Hatch and Khouzam set 100m Fly Philippine Swim Records at US Nationals

Philippine’s Jarod Hatch and Jean-Pierre Khouzam reset the 100m Butterfly national swim records on the third day of the 2019 Phillips 66 US National Championships in California, USA Friday night.

Twenty-one year old Hatch set a new 100m Fly seniors national record of 53.91, resetting his previous record of 54.36 clocked last June at the Santa Clara International meet.

Deiparine goes sub 28 in Men’s 50m Breast; resets national record

SEA Games medalist and national record holder James Christian Deiparine went sub 28 in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke, and reset his own national record at the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, Tuesday morning.

Going to this year’s World Championships amid not hitting the World’s qualifying “B” time, Deiparine proved that he is worthy of his slot by delivering a jaw-dropping 27.91 time in the morning preliminary of the Men’s 50m Breaststroke event, placing 33rd among 79 elite swimmers around the world.
