Describe yourself : Physical appearance, I’m not that tall, prolly 5’6½ . I have broad shoulders, tan skin tone, and I guess my upper body is more bigger than my lower body. Other than that, I’m competitive especially sa swim, hard worker and siguro the others na lang magdescribe sakin ang hirap nito eh!! Bsta simple lang ako.
What side or character of yours that would most likely surprise others? Ask them na lng di ko alam kung nasusurprise ko din sila eh haha
What age did you start swimming? What brought you to the sport of swimming? Since birth, 3 months, but the competitive mga 5-6 yrs old. What brought me to the swimming? I guess the encouragement of my two elders brothers, tapos I’m just mimicking them nung nagswiswim sila eh
During your early years of swimming, have you ever thought that you will reach where you are now today as a swimmer? Why? Personally, no kasi since nung bata kami tinatak ko lang na I will use swimming for my future purposes like that univ will notice me and get scholarship. Gaanun lang, but then, since I was offered to enter the national training pool, it was changed. I realized na sobra palang daming opportunities through swimming.
What do you think are the factors that make you a successful swimmer? First set a goal, like put a timeline na within this year I need to hit this time or by this month my times on training suppose to be much faster than last month. Second kasama ng pagset ng goal is HARD WORK, kasi kung wala nyan wala din, petiks lang. Third, trust the workout, trust the coach, dapat the connection between swimmer and coach are good, and they also should be in the same page ng gusto nilang marating. Next is the attitude na dapat every time you’re in the water never say die, no excuses or no daing, kung ano nakahain na workout yun na yun partner din sya ng hardwork. Lastly dapat happy ka and should love what are you doing. (ps. Also the prayer, it works)
What is your most memorable experience as a swimmer? Of course my first Olympics in London in 2012. Kasi after all that, its like you’re done in swimming, done in career, something like that.
Apart from being a Summer Olympian, what is (are) your other goal(s) as a swimmer? For swimming of course makaqualify pa sa mga next Olympics, then I really want to establish a Phil record na mejo matagal mabura (any events). Other than swimming, makatapos ng school and to help my family.
Was there ever a time that you thought of quitting swimming? Why? Everyday. Every session, gusto ko ng magquit! Why? Eh who wants paba ng magwake up ng 5-6am para lang saktan sarili, tapos babalik ka ng 4-5pm pra sa upakan sa hapon. But at the end of the day, I felt na worth it tong mga sakit nato. I still have this goal tomorrow to polish my turns, my strokes. So parang mamawala na sa isip mo yung quitting haha…
Who do you look up to as a swimmer? Why? Locally, of course Eric Buhain, Akiko Thomson. Sila talaga yung face ng Philippine swimming eh. But sa international, Michael Phelps, Hagino Kosuke of Japan and Park Tae Hwan of Korea.
Any specific routines (pamahi-in) before and during the meet or before a swim? What are these? I guess shaving the legs, arms and back lang during the big meets… yun lang.
Please share some words of wisdom for swimmers who wish to be like you. Like I said in the factors part, if you really want to succeed just follow them. But include ko lang na sa swimming hindi in one snap magiimprove kana, isang magandang session lang malakas kana. Hindi ganun. Dapat you need to understand the life of it. And probably darating kayo sa time na stable na yung performace nyo. Wag kayong mainis or sumuko on training. Either mag try kayo ng bagong activities na gusto nyo or isipin nyo lang kung saan kyo nagstart. Ganun talga ang life
