Describe yourself : When you first see me, you really don’t know what to expect. I’m a really huge guy around 6 foot tall which gives an intimidating impression to most people. However, the way I act around people says something different about me. I’m very talkative, energetic, and happy-go-lucky most of the time. However, when its time to get to work, I get to work.
What side or character of yours that would most likely surprise others? My serious side.
What age did you start swimming? What brought you to the sport of swimming? I started at the age of 6 at Celebrity sports club. Mom decided to teach me how to swim after countless trips of me asking her to swim at celebrity
During your early years of swimming, have you ever thought that you will reach where you are now today as a swimmer? Why? When i was around 5-7 years old I had no idea where swimming will take me because I was told as a child to use it as exercise because back then, I didn’t want to get fat. But eventually I learned to love the sport because of the experiences and the friends you make. As the years go by, I was exposed to different sorts of competitions whether it would be locally or internationally.
What do you think are the factors that make you a successful swimmer? Dedication, hard work, supportive parents/coaches and long-term goals.
What is your most memorable experience as a swimmer? When I was able to participate at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China.
Apart from being a Youth Olympian, what is (are) your other goal(s) as a swimmer? Qualify for world long course champs and try to break some records in the long-run hopefully.
Was there ever a time that you thought of quitting swimming? Why? Yes, when I broke my arm back in 2009. I had a cast for 6 months and I had my doubts if I could get back into shape.
Who do you look up to as a swimmer? Why? I don’t look up to any particular swimmer. I think what motivates me are my teammates. Seeing your friends or teammates accomplish great things motivate me as I wanna be like them someday. It just sparks a fire within me that if they could do it, I can do it. And bringing them on your journey to success is one thing that would really bring a smile to my face.
Any specific routines before and during the meet or before a swim? What are these? Before the race, I usually play games to keep my mind off things, or just do random things with my teammates. On race day, long dryland warm up and do random things with my teammates
Please share some words of wisdom for swimmers who wish to be like you : Enjoy every single moment swimming.
