Displaying a solid start in the first quarter, the Philippine Women’s Water Polo team succumbed to Singapore, 9-18 in its opening match in the 30th Southeast Asian Games women’s water polo competitions at the New Clark City aquatics center in Capas, Tarlac Wednesday morning.
The women’s team held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, but reigning silver medalist, Singapore, scored six goals each in the second and fourth period to turn the match around.
This year mark’s our womens team’s second participation at the prestigious biennial meet in the region.
Philippines’ first sent a women’s team in the Water Polo event at the 27th edition of the games in Singapore, last 2005, where we finished last among 5 participating countries.
This year, there are only three participating nations in the water polo women’s division, where Philippines is joined by Singapore and Thailand.
All three teams will play a double round robin format.
Our women’s team will have their second game today against Thailand, who beat Singapore 19-5 last Tuesday.
