Philippine diver Jana Mary Villaflor ended our country’s campaign at the 10th Asian Age Group Championships with a bronze medal in India Wednesday afternoon.
After failing to land a medal in the 1m Springboard event, Villaflor again strutted her wares in the 14 & Under Girls Platform event along with five other divers from Asia.
Villaflor finished the Platform event in third place with bronze medal points of 149.3
India’s Sharma Palak took the gold with 162.7 points, while Nur Nufiidah Sudirman of Indonesia tallied 150.65 for the silver.
Her bronze medal win is Philippines’ fourth medal in the diving events at this year’s Asian Age Group Championships.
Monique Ann Demaisip delivered two gold medals for the country, in the 1m and 3m Springboard Open events; while Francisco Deorelar added another gold in the 3m Springboard open event.
After our divers stint at the Asian Age Group Championships which will end on Wednesday, they are scheduled to go back to China to continue their training on the 5th of October.
Philippine Swimming Incorporated President Lailani Velasco bared that they are currently eyeing two more major international meets for the Philippine Diving team prior to their SEA Games stint.
The Australian leg of the FINA Diving Grand Prix this November 8-10 as their next possible stop, then the Malaysia leg in November 15-17 to test their mettles against the top divers in Southeast Asia.
The Philippine Diving Team is being mentored by head coach Xiaofeing Cui and coach Nino Beduya Carog, under the team management of Marie Dimanche.
