SEA Age Group triple gold medalist, Desirae Aubrey Mangaoang, made the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships’ cut last Sunday after surpassing the required 710 FINA Points in her 200m Breaststroke swim at the 43rd SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Mangaoang, the pride of Aringay, La Union, dominated the 16-18 Girls 200m Breaststroke event from start to finish and took home the gold with 2:34.38

Her gold medal time is equivalent to 731 FINA Points, which has surpassed the 710 FP QTA for this year’s Junior Worlds Team.

She also clocked a gold medal time of 33.20 in the 50m Breaststroke which is equivalent to 694 FP; and a silver medal time of 1:12.30 in 100m Breast event, equivalent to 697 FP.

Her time though in the 200m Breast is enough to cement her slot in the national team bound for Uzbekistan this August.

Mangaoang has now joined the ranks of Jean-Pierre Khouzam, Jerard Dominic Jacinto, Adrian Philipi Eichler, Miguel Barreto and Jaden Olson who have already hit the QTA prior to the SEA Age Group championships in Cambodia.

Miguel Barreto who also saw action last weekend in Cambodia has improved his FINA Points in 400m Free event, where he clocked 4:04.26 which is equivalent to 731 FINA Points.

43rd SEA Age Group medalists Jeremiah Tandingan and Rian Marco Tirol unfortunately failed to make the cut amid sterling performances in Cambodia last weekend.

Tandingan has an average of 675 FINA Points in three events, which is five points away from the 780 FP QTC cut.

Tirol on the other hand has 672 FINA Points average in three events; while US based swimmer Jazzlyn Pak (did not see action in Cambodia) also has an average of 673 FINA Points.

QTA for this year’s Junior Worlds is 710 FP in an individual event, 700 to 709 average FINA Points of two events as QTB, and then 680 to 699 average FINA Points of three events as QTC.

Nomination deadline for the Junior Worlds National Team Selection is this Wednesday, July 3, 2019.
