In a day where multiple Palarong Pambansa records were broken, Philippine Swimming’s national team mainstay Xiandi Chua shined the brightest as she shattered one of the three oldest Palarong Pambansa records at the UP Mindanao Sports Complex in Davao City, Wednesday morning.

Chua clocked a gold medal time of 2:23.86 in the 200m Individual Medley Secondary Division event to break Althea Lim’s 2:25.56 record set in the 1998 edition of Palarong Pambansa.

This feat came after she broke the 200m Breaststroke 2:46.36 Palaro record with her new record time of 2:43.08.

She later on capped her day two Palaro campaign with another Palaro Record (her third for the day), where she teamed up with NCR’s Samantha Therese Coronel, Thanya Dela Cruz and Micale Jasmine Mojdeh to break the 4:32.68 record in the 4x100m Medley Relay event, with their gold medal time of 4:32.49

Western Visayas’ Alexie Kozenye Cabayaran again displayed a record breaking performance on day two of the Palaro, winning the 100m Free Elementary Girls event with a new Palaro record time of 1:02.25, her second record and her third gold medal.

Jordan Ken Lobos of Calabarzon reigned supreme in the 200m Breaststroke Secondary division, setting a new Palaro record time of 2:26.77 en route to a gold finish.

NCR’s Phillip Joaquin Santos also propelled his way to a new Palaro record, taking the gold in the 200m IM Secondary event with a new record time of 2:12.58.

Seven Palaro records were broken on day two of the championships, one of which is oldest Palaro records.

The two oldest Palaro records remaining are the 400m Free Secondary, 4:35.23, by Natasha Legarda of Western Visayas and the 2:25.66 record in the 200m Back Secondary event by STACA’s Lizza Danila; both set in 1998.

Chua is poised to break Danila’s record in the 200m Back today.

Winning two gold medals on day two was Calabarzon’s Aubrey Tom who reigned supreme in the 200m IM (2:34.15) and 50m Breast (37.07) elementary division.

Other day two gold medal winners in the Elementary Division were Socsargen’s Isidore Warain (200m IM / 2:32.37), Bicol’s John Lorenz Pesimo (50m Breast / 34.48), Northern Mindanao’s Nimrod Montera (100m Free / 1:00.48)

Mimaropa’s Mary Sophia Manantan (50m Breast / 35.63); and NCR’s Rian Marco Tirol (50m Breast / 30.02), Keanne Cedric Ting (100m Free / 55.42) and Althea Michel Baluyut (100m Free / 1:01.01).

Meanwhile, amid not winning an individual gold medal today, Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh also took the limelight on day two of the championships, where she swam her way to another junior PH swim record breaking performance in the 200m IM event.

Taking the silver in the said event, Mojdeh erased Raven Faith Alcsoeba’s 2:31.04 Philippine Junior National Record in the Girls 13 & Under division, with her new record time of 2:30.11

This is Mojdeh’s second PH Junior Swim Record, after she set a new 13 & Under Girls record in the 200m Fly yesterday.
