Davao swimmer Amoguis bags 3 golds to open PH Age Group meet

TAGUM, Davao del Norte – Philippine Swimming junior national record holder Liaa Margarette Amoguis swept all of her three events on Friday to highlight the start of the Philippine National Age Group Swimming Championships at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex Aquatic Center here.

Carrying the colors of the Holiday Gym Swim Club, Amoguis, 12, emerged from the pool with wins in the girls 11-13-year-old 400-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley in the three-day event organized by the Philippine Swimming Inc.

The Grade 6 student at Abbas Orchard School opened her campaign in topping the 400-meter freestyle in four minutes and 53.15 seconds, followed by the 100-meter butterfly mint (1:11.22), before closing out her golden day in ruling the 400-meter individual medley (5:25.32).

“I’m happy to have won three golds and, hopefully, I can add some more,” said Amoguis, who bagged a bronze medal in the 2018 Southeast Asian age group swimfest in Los Banos and was eyeing to add to her collection in the 800-meter IM and 100-meter breast stroke races on Saturday.

Sharing the spotlight was 2018 SEA Age double gold medalist Xiandi Chua, who bagged golds in the girls 16-18 200-meter backstroke (2:49.47) and 400-meter IM (5:08.66), respectively, in the meet serving as one of the qualifying competitions for the 30th Philippine Southeast Asian Games.

Joining them in roster of victors was Almoguis’ elder sister Lorah Micah, 13, who took the 11-13 girls backstroke gold (2:33.69) in the event also supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee and Philippine Sports Commission.

Aside the Almoguis sisters, the Holiday Gym Swim Club swimmers from Davao made their presence felt with wins through Matthieu Adrien Tao in the boys 14-15 200-meter backstroke (2:23.62), Risa Angelian Sahagun in the girls 11-13- 50-meter breast stroke (37.72) and Ivo Nikolai Enot in the boys 11-13 200-meter backstroke (2:27.78).

Kobe Ramirez, who is based in Singapore, made his golden debut in the competition in ruling the boys 11-13 50-meter backstroke in 36.61 seconds while the tankers of the All-Star Swimming Club led by noted filipino-Chinese coach Enrico Sy delivered two other golds outside of Chua.

Junior national record holder Mishka Sy ruled the girls 14-15 200-meter backstroke (2:30.67) while Hannah Drelyn Sanchez captured the girls 14-15 400-meter freestyle crown (4:47.11).

    saan po galing ang photo nito? familiar po kasi sa photo ng sunstar davao during the Batang Pinoy 2019 Mindanao.
