Olympian Jasmine Alkhaldi delivered a bronze on day two of the Liberty Insurance 50th Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships held at the OCBC Aquatic Center in Singapore Wednesday evening.
Alkhaldi clocked 56.45 in the Superfinals of the Women’s 100m Freestyle event, enough to take home the bronze medal.
Singapore’s Ting Wen Quah won the gold via a new Singapore national record time of 54.82, while Cherlyn Yeoh, also from Singapore took the silver with her time of 55.45
Sadly, Alkhaldi’s bronze medal time failed to equal or surpass the QTB of this year’s World Championships (56.40), as well as the 2017 SEA Games bronze medal time (55.90).
Top male backstroker of the country, Jerard Dominic Jacinto, narrowly missed a podium finish; placing fourth in the Superfinals of the Men’s 200m Backstroke event with a time of 2:08.25
Amid placing fourth though, his time has surpassed the 2:09.90 QTB of this year’s SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Cambodia, which assures him of a slot at the juniors national team this June.
His 200m Backstroke time is also equivalent to 664 FINA Points, which could possibly win him a slot at this year’s FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest this August.
Also qualifying in the day two Superfinals was Olympian Jessie Khing Lacuna, who finished 8th in the 200m IM event with a time of 2:09.17
Filipino swimmers who finished among the Top 10 of their respective Age-Group after the evening finals were 13 year-old Ivo Nikolai Inot (6th place in 200m Back / 2:23.50), 14 year-old Jalil Sephraim Taguinod (7th Place in 200m IM / 2:23.52), 14 year-old Lance Rafael Cruz (8th place in 200m Back / 2:27.11), 13 year old Athena Shannessa Chang (8th Place in 100m Free / 1:02.24), and 17 year-old Samantha Therese Coronel (10th place in 200m Back / 2:30.07).
