Fil-German Adrian Philipp Eichler hit the 1500m Free QTB of the 30th SEA Age Group Swimming Championships at the South Germany Long Distance Championships (Süddeutsche Meisterschaften Strecke) in Wurzburg, Germany last weekend.
Fifteen year-old Eichler, who is yet to turn sixteen this December, clocked 16:26.47 in the 1500m Freestyle event, and surpassed this year’s SEA Age Group Championships’ QTB of 16:32.57 in 16-18 Age Group.
QTA of this event is 16:18.75.
Eichler is the first male swimmer who has hit a QTA/QTB of the 30th SEA AG Championships.
He now joins Nicole Oliva, Georgia Peregrina, Xiandi Chua, Desirae Mangaoang, Samantha Coronel and Jeremiah Tandingan in the list of QTA/QTB swimmers; and could possibly make his second appearance at the prestigious annual junior swimming championships in the Southeast Asia region.
Eichler’s 16:26.47 time is Philippine Swimming’s fastest 1500m Freestyle time for the past seven years.
Last year, in the 29th edition of the game which Philippines hosted, Eichler debuted for Team Philippines and went home with a Bronze; placing third in the Boys 4x200m Freestyle relay along with Reiniel Francis Lagman, Miguel Barreto and Ted Jacob Laminta.
He was also part of the Mixed 4x200m Freestyle relay team composed of Ted Jacob Laminta, Janelle Alisa France Lin and Zoe Marie Hilario; which currently holds the Philippine national record of this event (8:31.78).
Eichler also saw action in the 200m Free, 400m Free, 1500m Free, 100m Fly and 200m Fly events of the 14-15 Age-Group Division; and managed to place as high as 6th place in 200m Free and 200m Fly events.
With two months to go before the deadline of the nomination to the Philippine Team for the 30th SEA Age Group Swimming Championships in Cambodia, Eichler continues to focus on his training, and hopes to deliver more QTBs in the coming months.
