Philippine Swimming Incorporated (PSI) has released the team selection qualifying guidelines for the 43rd SEA Age Group Swimming Championships this year, to be held in Cambodia on June 28-30, 2019.
Just like last year, PSI is set to send a full team to this year’s edition in Cambodia, wherein Top 2 swimmers in all events and in all age-groups will get the chance to be selected to the team and represent the country at this annual regional championships for the youth.
This is a welcome development for Philippine swimming, as we traditionally only send QTA and QTB qualifiers to SEA AG when staged overseas which limits the opportunities for local swimmers to gain experience in international meets.
PSI still sets the QTA and QTB times though for swimmers to achieve.
Good news is, swimmers who hit the QTA will get 100% funding by PSC and PSI; while QTB qualifiers will get 30% funding.
Swimmers who will qualify via Top 2 times (not QTA or QTB) will have to fund their own stint in Cambodia.
It is important to note though, that there maybe events wherein a number of swimmers may hit the QTA or QTB, thus only top 2 QTA/QTB times will be selected to swim in such event.
Qualifying period is December 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019, and times are needed to be achieved at the following qualifying meets :
– Philippine National Age Group – March 29-31, 2019
– 2019 PSI Grand Prix Series (until March 2019)
– SNAG 2019 (March 19-24, 2019)
– MILO PRAM (March 7-10, 2019)
– All other FINA and PSI Approved or Sanctioned Long Course Meets during the Qualifying Period
No time conversion shall be allowed from yards/ short course to long course; while overseas-based athletes are responsible to seek clarification from PSI on whether the meet qualifies as a Selection Meet.
MOST IMPORTANTLY : Qualified swimmers WILL HAVE TO BE NOMINATED by his/her coach or Team Manager for TEAM SELECTION not later than April 10, 2919 (Wednesday), with 5:00pm as cut-off time.
It is the sole responsibility of the PSI registered coach or Team Manager to nominate his/her swimmer on or before the nomination date; therefore, Philippine Swimming Incorporated (PSI) should not be held accountable if any qualified swimmers will not make it to the Philippine Team due to the negligence of his/her coach for failing to
nominate his/her swimmer.
A swimmer can be nominated for a maximum of five (5) individual events.
Any nominations received after 5:00 PM on April 10, 2019 shall not be considered.
