THE Philippines’ top national athletes will now get an allowance of P45,000 monthly, up by P5,000 from the previous system.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) approved the new monthly allowance scheme recently, with Olympic medalists and world champions listed in the new ‘platinum’ classification, getting the maximum amount of P45,000.
Class A athletes, classified as World Cup and World Championship silver and bronze medalist, Asian Games gold medalist, chess Grandmasters, and Olympians of preceding Games get P40,000.
Asian Games silver and bronze medalists, Asian Cup and Asian Championships medalists, and Southeast Asian Games gold medalist will be classified as Class B and will receive a monthly allowance of P30,000.
SEA Games and SEA Cup and SEA Championships silver and bronze medalist will be classified as Class C and will get P20,000 monthly.
Invitational and open medalists, former medalists, and returning medalists will be under Training Pool-A and will receive P10,000, while local events medalists and new entries will take home P6,000.
Under the implementing guidelines of granting allowances, only sports that have been included at least twice in the SEA Games and at least once in the Asian Games within the last 10 years will be considered in the official roster of national athletes.
Olympic, Asian Games, and SEA Games medalist must maintain their status for one cycle, while World, Asian, and SEA Championship/Cup medalist must maintain their status for two years.
