Four tankers left last night to represent Philippines at the 9th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from September 10 to 13, 2017.
Leading the team is come-backing swimmer Samuel John Alcos, one of the very few elite senior swimmers we have in the country.
This will be the first official international meet for the twenty seven year-old Alcos, who hopes to continue donning the Philippine colors in future international meets.
Joining him is Junior national record holder, Thanya Angelyn Dela Cruz; Philippines’ lone medalist at the 6th Children of Asia in Yakutsk, Russia, Camille Lauren Buico; and Philippines’ lone gold medalist in an international meet last year, Bhay Maitland Newberry.
Alcos is seeing action in the 18 & Above age group; while Dela Cruz, Buico and Newberry in the 14 & Under Age Group.
Amid having a smaller delegation this year, all four tankers vow to make an impact at this year’s championships.
In the 8th edition of the championships, Team Philippines finished in 18th place among 30 participating nations; and went home with 1 silver and 1 bronze courtesy of Hannah Dato.
