High School Tankers amass four gold medals on day two of ASG 2017

The Philippine Swimming High School tankers continued their winning forms, amassing a total of four gold medals on day two action of the 9th ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore Sports School, Singapore, Sunday afternoon.

Swim superstar Maurice Sacho Ilustre pulled-off a back-to-back gold medal win as he reigned supreme in both Boys 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle events.

Ilustre set a new Boys 16-18 Junior Philippine National Record of 55.97 en route to winning the gold medal of the Boys 100m Butterfly event, erasing Jessie Lacuna’s 7-year-old record of 56.18

He also clocked a new best time of 1:53.21 as he took the gold of the Boys 200m Freestyle event.

Not to be outshined, Philippine’s swim sensation Bhay Maitland Newberry collected her second gold medal in the games, after topping the Girls 100m Backstroke finals with a time of 1:05.42

In the morning prelims, Newberry clocked 1:05.38 in the same event, erasing her previous Girls 14-15 Junior Philippine National record of 1:06.24

Meanwhile, Jerard Dominic Jacinto chipped-in another gold medal for Team Philippines, tying with Indonesia’s Setyawan Daniel for the top spot of the Boys 100m Backstroke finals with time of 59.60

SEA Games bound Nicole Meah Pamintuan triumphed in the Girls 200m Freestyle event where she clocked a new best time of 2:08.09 to take the bronze medal.

Amid placing 4th in the Girls 100m Butterfly event, Camille Lauren Buico delivered a Junior Philippine Swimming record breaking performance, erasing Regina Maria Paz Castrillo’s Girls 14-15 record of 1:04.41 with her new record of 1:03.97

After day two of action, Team Philippines has so far won six gold, one silver and 2 bronze medals; with Sacho Ilustre winning 3 of the golds and 1 silver.

The Team has also set a total of four Junior Philippine National Swimming Records, two of which were set by Newberry.
