In her debut at the Philippine soil, Nicole Justine Marie Oliva reigned supreme at the recently concluded 2017 PhilSwim National Long Course Swimming Championships held at the Trace Aquatic Center in Laguna last week; sweeping all seven gold medals in all seven events that she was entered.

Oliva started her campaign winning the 400m Free and 100m Back events, then clinched the gold medals of the 200m Free and 200m Back events the following day, and ended her LC Nationals campaign with three more gold medals by winning the 100m Free, 800m Free and 50m Back events.

“This was a good experience for me because I was able to adjust to the local conditions, which I think will be the same in Malaysia,” said Oliva of her experience in the meet organized by the Philippine Swimming Inc. and backed by Arena, Wilcon Depot, COL Finance and Dunn Edwards Paints, Philippians 4:13, Nagaraya, Veloci and Nutritive Snack Food Corp.

Sixteen-year-old grade 10 student Oliva is set to represent the country at the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August, but is eyed to debut for Team Philippines at the Budapest World Swimming Championships next month, along with James Deiparine and Olympians Jasmine Alkhaldi and Jessie Lacuna.

Other swimmers who made an impact at the LC Nationals were Philippine Joaquin Santos with four golds, Jessie Lacuna and Xiandi Chua with three gold medals each, and Maurice Sacho Ilustre, Rafael Barreto, Samuel John Alcos and Kirsten Chloe Daos with two gold medals each.

Meanwhile, Baguio’s Maenard Rhoman Batnag dominated the 13 & Under Division championships, winning eight gold medals at the three day national championships.

He took the gold medals of all Backstroke, Butterfly and IM events.

Marco Daos pocketed four gold medals, while Jalil Sephrain Taguinod, Kirsten Robyn Tan, Maglia Jaye Dignadice, and Ricielle Melencio went home with three gold medals each.
