It’s official! Sixteen-year-old Xiandi Chua made the cut for this year’s 29th Southeast Asian Games after her impressive 200m Freestyle swim at the 2017 PhilSwim Long Course Swimming Championships in Laguna, Saturday morning.

In the morning prelims of the Women’s 200m Freestyle event, Chua clocked 2:09.09 minutes, enough to land the 4th spot of Philippine Swimming’s 4x200m Freestyle relay team which has already been assured of a slot in the Philippine Team for achieving the QTA standards.

Chua completed the team which is composed of Nicole Justine Marie Oliva (2:02.07), Jasmine Alkhaldi (2:02.52) and Rosalee Mira Santa Ana (2:08.52)

The quartet has a combined time of 8:22.20, much faster than the 2015 SEA Games bronze medal time of 8:30.97 clocked by Indonesia.

Chua, the protege of former national coach Pinky Brosas, did not swim in the finals of the 200m Free event, and only saw action in the 400m IM finals where she took the gold with a new personal best time of 5:02.52

Day 1 PH Junior National Record breaker, Bhay Maitland Newberry, again clocked another 14-15 Girls record, her second at this year’s LC Nationals, and 5th in her swimming career.

She erased Xiandi Chua’s 200m Back 14-15 Girls Junior National record of 2:24.84, with her new record time of 2:24.71 en route to winning the silver.

Nicole Oliva, who is also SEA Games bound, took the gold.

Fourteen-year-old Camille Lauren Buico, clinched her first 14-15 Girls Junior National Record en route to a gold medal performance in the Women’s 50m Butterfly event.

She erased Regina Maria Paz Castrillo’s 29.44 record in the 14-15 Girls 50m Fly event, with her new record time of 29.11

Buico is also the current record holder of the 13 & Under 50m and 100m Fly events.

Meanwhile, Baguio Bluwaves Swimming Club’s Meanard Rhoman Batnag continued his winning streak on day two of the championships, again winning 3 gold medals which has brought his medal haul to six gold medals.

Batnag, topped the 50m Fly, 200m Back and 400m IM events in the Boys 13 & Under division.

Nicole Oliva, continued to dominate the women’s 14 & Above division, this time winning the 200m Free and 200m Back events.
