Team Philippines’ international meet debutante, Timothy Yen, scored back-to-back best times at the 5th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Singapore, Friday morning.
Yen, who was born in Cebu but now resides in USA, was all fired-up in his second individual event of the championship, clocking a new 50m Butterfly best time of 26.74 seconds, 0.44 seconds faster than his previous best time going to the championship.
This is Yen’s second best time in the championship, after clocking a new best time of 57.81 in the 100m Fly last Wednesday.
He will be back in the pool again this Sunday for his last individual event, the Men’s 200m Butterfly.
Meanwhile, compatriots Deanne Umbay, Kirsten Chloe Daos and Xiandi Chua registered respectable times on day 4 of the championship.
Daos delivered a very well planned 400m Freestyle swim (1:07.06/1:11.20/1:11.03/1:09.7) to finish in 52nd place among 62 entries, clocking a time of 4:39.26; just 0.34 seconds away from her best time in this event.
Chua finished her Women’s 200m Individual Medley race with 2:29.17 (+ 4.77), and placed 42nd overall among 57 entries.
Umbay on the other hand, was the busiest Filpino swimmer this morning, seeing action in both Women’s 50m Backstroke and Women’s 200m Individual Medley events,
She clocked her 2015 season’s best time of 31.58 seconds in the 50m Backstroke event (just 0.39 seconds short from beating her best time), and 2:28.83 (+1.85) in the 200m IM race.
She finished in 46th place in the 50m Back, among 63 swimmers; and 41st overall in the 200m IM, among 51 entries.
Those were Umbay’s last individual events in the championship, and she only has one event left – the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay on Sunday.
Tomorrow’s action features Kirsten Chloe Daos and Regina Maria Paz Castrillo swimming side by side in lane 3 and 4 (heat 2) of the Women’s 100m Butterfly event.
Castrillo will then go back to the pool for the Women’s 50m Freestyle event (lane 9 of heat 4), her last individual event in the championship.
Maurice Sacho Ilustre is also seeing action tomorrow in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley event, swimming in lane 4 of heat one.
Preliminary swims start at 10:00am, while semifinals and final swims start at 6:00pm; with online “live streaming” coverage at FINA TV.
